3 arrested for secretly filming guests, extorting money from them at Diu hotel
(Staff Reporter) Three people, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from people after secretly filming them with hidden cameras as they got intimate in a hotel in Diu, near Gujarat, police said on Tuesday. Diu, often referred to as Diu Town, is a historic-fortified settlement located in the Diu district of the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. According to the police, the accused operator of Diu's Keshav Hotel, Sanjay Rathod, and manager Altaf were running a sex racket under the garb of a spa. The identity of the woman, who used to honeytrap customers to visit the hotel in the name of a spa, has not been disclosed. The unsuspecting customers visited the hotel and were filmed while getting intimate by cameras hidden inside the electric switchboards in the rooms. The accused would then threaten such customers with consequences if they did not pay them as demanded. "Customers were being called to the hotel by the woman in the name of a spa. These people had hidden a camera in the switchboard in the hotel room and through a woman, both of them ran an extortion racket," a senior police official said. The police raided the hotel after receiving information and uncovered the truth about the extortion business run from the hotel to trap innocent people.
After arresting Sanjay Rathod and Altaf, police found more than 20 videos of private moments of many people on their phones.
The police have appealed to people who fell prey to this racket to come forward and provide them with more information, assuring them that they would be given protection. eanwhile, police have registered a case and an investigation has been launched to find out how many people were targeted by the accused.
