Alexandra Sabine Lewalter Maric and her husband, Udo Lewalter her husband came to Manhattan to celebrate their marriage anniversary. But Alexandra was critically injured and later died, and Lewalter suffered a head injury, after they were struck by a vehicle driven by Mohammed Abouzaid in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday.
Both tourists were visiting from Hamburg, Germany.
A green minivan, bearing a vanity plate that read "TIMES SQUARE," struck the tourists, The driver tried to avoid blocking the intersection and hit reverse as a box truck was coming up behind it - barreling toward the light.
Driver of the vehicle fled the scene, but cops caught up with him, only a few blocks away at 8th Avenue and West 38th Street where the van was found with a dented bumper.
Police charged Mohammed Abouzaid, the driver, after taking him into custody.

A driver, who is being located by the NYPD, of a green minivan rammed into a couple in Midtown Wednesday afternoon.
The 50-year-old woman and 55-year-old man from Hamburg were struck around 2:40 p.m. at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 40th Street, according to the sources.
