Mehul Choksi arrested in Belgium

(By our staff reporter) Mehul Choksi, an infamous Diamond merchant who had fled India, has been arrested in Belgium, at the request of the Indian government:- He had purchased citizenship in Antigua and Barbuda. The Belgian Federal Public Service of Justice on Monday confirmed that fugitive Indian businessman Mehul Choksi was arrested on April 12. Now India agencies the ED and CBI will have to send an immediate request for his extradition to India, as there already is an extradition treaty with Belgium in existence, said a senior home ministry official, requesting anonymity. It's worth noting that Gangster Abu Salem was the last person extradited from the European Union 20 years ago.
