Atiq Ahmed’s close aide arrested after encounter in UP's Prayagraj: Police



 (News Agency)-According to the police, Mohammed Nafees alias Nafees Biryani was a key accused in the Umesh Pal murder and a reward of Rs 50,000 was also announced for any leads to him. Slain gangster Atiq Ahmed's close aide was arrested by the police in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj district after an encounter on Wednesday night. According to the police, Mohammed Nafees alias Nafees Biryani was a key accused in the Umesh Pal murder and areward of Rs 50,000 was also announced for any leads to him.
Notably, Umesh Pal, the main witness in the BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, was shot dead in broad daylight outside his home in Prayagraj's Dhoomanganj area on February 24, 2023. As per the police, the Hundai Creta car used in the murder belonged to Mohammad Nafees, who had been absconding since the killing.Nafees was also a key financer of the slain gangster Atiq Ahmed. In the retaliatory fire, one of them was shot in the leg and arrested, while the other managed to escape.The wounded man was admitted to a hospital for treatment.During interrogation, the injured man revealed his name to be Mohammad Nafees alias Nafees Biryani, a key accused in the Umesh Pal murder case.In April this year, Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by two men posing as media persons when the two jailed criminals were being taken to a hospital in Prayagraj in police custody.
