Police continues to be on high alert in Alappuzha, All-party meeting concludes

The all-party meeting was held under the leadership of Fisheries and Cultural minister Saji Cherian and Agricultural minister P Prasad

(News Agencies)-Police continue to be on high alert in Alappuzha with the tense situation prevailing and the search for the assailants involved in both murders still on. Meanwhile, representatives at the all-party meeting held on Tuesday decided to ensure peace was maintained in the district.
The all-party meeting was held under the leadership of Fisheries and Cultural minister Saji Cherian and Agricultural minister P Prasad. All representatives of political parties unanimously agreed to the suggestions put forward to maintain peace. The murders of both KS Shan, secretary, SDPI and OBC Morcha leader Renjith Sreenivasan were condemned. The ministers further assured that all involved in the crime would be brought before justice.
The suggestions put forward include that all representatives should try to maintain peace and spread messages of unity at their levels and avoid any chances of conflict, bringing any and all complaints to the attention of the district administration or MLAs or Ministers rather than give in to provocations. They also called for public support to ensure a peaceful atmosphere.
The BJP and SDPI both slammed the police in the all-party meeting. SDPI alleged that the police are making people call 'Vandematharam and Jai Shree Ram'.
BJP president Gopakumar said that if the police can't catch the murderers of the BJP leader, they would take the matter to the centre. They further alleged that the district administration disrespected Ranjith Sreenivasan's body.
MLAs Ramesh Chennithala, H Salam, PP Chitharanjan, Thomas K Thomas and MS Arunkumar, district collector A Alexander, District Police Chief G Jayadev, ADM J Mobi and sub collector Suraj Shaji were among those who took part in the meeting.
EXTENSIVE RAIDS, COUNCILLOR IN CUSTODY
Extensive raids were conducted in Alappuzha on Tuesday. 260 houses were raided looking for culprits in the murders. The raided places include houses of RSS and SDPI workers. Mannancheri Panchayat member and SDPI leader Nawas Naina was taken into custody.
Meanwhile, the prohibition declared under Section 144 was extended in the wake of the continuing tense political climate in the district. It will now be in effect until December 23.
